SSI is pleased to announce the launch of the
SSI Advanced Adventurer program, which is introductory
into SSI Specialty Courses and replaces the SSI Advanced
Specialty Course, effective 01 August 2006.
The SSI Advanced Adventurer program is intended to
allow and prepare O/W divers to experience and enhance student interest
in different areas of recreational diving, as well as to encourage
these divers to further their diving education and experience. As
well as allowing them to dive deeper then 18 meters.
The SSI Advanced Adventurer program acts as a tool for SSI Instructors,
Dive Centers, Training Facilities and Resorts to promote Continuing
Education and leadership level programs, which is built upon skills
and experience during this course. The student can choose five Specialty
Dives in different areas of diving, with the Deep and Navigation
Specialty Dives as core dives (and are mandatory).
Individual Specialty Dives offers the diver opportunities to sample
new diving activities under the guidance of an SSI Dive Leader as
well as set the foundation for additional training. Divers who are
unable to complete the Advanced Adventurer Course are encouraged
to conduct individual Specialty Dives. Dive documentation should
include a Specialty Dive Training Record and the diver’s log
book, signed by an Active SSI Instructor or Certified Assistant,
if applicable.
All individual Specialty Dives are a brief introduction into each
Specialty area. The dive leader must inform the student that there
is more to learn in each Specialty area and in order to be certified
as a specialist is said area, hence increasing enrollment in Specialty
courses etc.
The performed dives of the Advanced Adventurer Program are credited
towards all Specialty Courses, at the instructor’s discretion,
so that students will only have to complete all academics and the
remaining dives to successfully finish the Specialty.
The Advanced Adventurer certification also entitles the student
to accredit these dives towards other courses such as Specialty
Diver, SSI Advanced Open Water Diver or SSI Master Diver ratings.
It is in the best interest of SSI Instructors and Dive Centers to
promote the SSI Advanced Adventurer and above as part of an integrated
program of SSI Continuing Education.
